1) When was Edison born?
Edison was born on February 11, 1847.
2) Describe what Edison’s education was like. How does Edison’s education compare to your education?
Thomas did not have too much education as a child because he only went to school for a few months. His mother taught him reading , writing, and arithmetic. Thomas liked to teach himself reading. My education is until I finish school, I learn math, science, social studies, tech, art, LA, and Chinese! Today we can use computers and smart boards and a a lot of new technology that Thomas did not get to use. My mom did not teach me to much of my school work, she lets my school teach me. I don't teach myself that much, I let the school teach me. That is how different my education is from Thomas's and mine.
3) How did Edison spend his free time?
Thomas Edison spent most of his free time reading scientific and technical books.
4) What opportunities did Edison have as a telegraph operator?
The opportunities Edison had as a telegraph is he go to travel, see the country, and make him gain experience.
5) What was Edison’s first successful invention?
Edison's first invention is the improved stock ticker.
6) Edison’s second major invention was the tin foil phonograph. What did it do?
The tin foil phonograph is used for recording and reproducing sound.
7) What contributions did Edison make to the electric lighting industry?
What Edison did to the electric company is he invented the electric light that can be used inside.
8) What was Edison’s third invention? How can its impact be seen on the world today?
Thomas Edison's third invention is the incandescent lamp that can burn 13 and a half hours. It is used today to light up our houses.Without this great invention we would not have any light!
9) Describe one challenge that Edison had to face.
One of Edison's greatest challenges is when he wanted to build the incandescent electric light, the reason why it was his greatest challenge is because the idea of it was not new. People have already have invented it but no one has invented it so it could work inside their own house.
10) What do you think Edison will be remembered for the most? Why?
What I think Edison will be remembered the most of is how hard he worked just to make man civilized.
1- How do you think Thomas Edison improved the quality of people’s lives in the 1900’s though technology.
I think he did a very good job inventing things that other people could not make. He was a very good man, he made everything more civilized for others to use and build on.
2- How has Thomas Edison’s inventions improved the quality of your life today?
Today if we did not have the incandescent light bulb we would not have light in our homes! Today if we did not have the phonograph we would not have movies. Without it man could not have improved it to make movies! http://inventors.about.com/od/estartinventors/a/Edison_Bio.htm
Essential Questions I Need to Answer
Question #1: Who is the inventor and what about their life impacted their ability to create the inventions?
Bell, Alexander Graham: Scientist and Inventor
Alexander Graham Bell is born in March 3 1847 in EdinburghScotland. His two siblings Melville born in 1845 and Edward born in 1848. His mom is deaf. His child hood was normal, he went to school early and left school early like Thomas Edison. He left school at the age of 15. At 1863 in August he decides to teach music at WestonHouseAcademy. When he becomes an adult. Later he teaches a school for the deaf. Then he thought, I want to build something that is better than the telegraph. The reason why he did this is because he was always inspired by sound. He got married at 1877 to Mabble Hubbard who is deaf. He got 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls. The 2 boys died when they were babbies. When he was inventing the phone he found out a lot of new stuff. Like on June 2 1875 Alexander Graham Bell finds out that he can hear sound over a wire. Throughout researching and making improvements he made the telephone at age 29 and it was the death of the telegraph. He made this invention in Canada. Through his new invention he said "Mr. Watson come here, I want to see you." Mr. Watson was in the other room and could hear him just fine. That is how the telephone was made.ALexander Graham Bell Died on August 2, 1922. When he was 75 years old. He died in Canada.
What impacted Alexander Grand Bell's life to make the telephone is sound. Sound has inspired his entire family. Sound has always inspired him so he also thought of the telegraph. It was pretty cool with all its dashes and dots but he thought they needed better. Sometimes he would get messed up with all the dots and dashes. He wanted something where he could talk and use his own voice. So he invented the telephone.
Question #2: What is the invention and how is it made?
Alexander Graham Bell made the telephone. Alexander Bell wanted to improve the phonograph. Making the telephone was hard for Alexander Graham Bell because he needed more money, supplies, and an experienced electrician. Lucky for him two of his students dad's were willing to help him, they paid for everything and gave him a young electrician. They made two identical instruments that they had invented. They put two thin metal strips inside the instrument. They attached them onto a wire. The wire was attached to both ends. On March 10, 1876Bell yelled “Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you!” Watson was working at the other room and herd Bell talking through the telephone perfectly. That was the first phone call. That is how BellCanada the company got made. They named it after Alexander Graham Bell’s last name. On July 9, 1877 all this happened.
Question #3: How did the invention affect society at that time?
Alexander Graham Bell's invention the telephone affected the society a whole lot because instead of running to someone you want to tell something to instead of walking to your phone and saying it right there. That is so much easier. If you prefer to run all the way to your friend’s house then be my guest. He just wanted to make things easier. Before we had the telephone people had mail then people had to ride on a horses and give the person the letter and keep doing that on and on and on! Now that we have the phone it is easier than waiting forever for your message to get to the other person. It just became so much easier. If I wanted to tell my grandma I want to you to come to my house next week and she gets the letter next month because the person who is delivering the message is not there at the moment and she gets the letter a month later she won't get there on time. It is much easier just to talk.
Question #4: Is the invention still used today? Why? How? Modifications?
Yes, the great invention the telephone is still used today. Alexander Graham Bell's way of making the phone is so different from now. Other inventors modified it a lot. Instead of using the vibrations we use a lot of technology to keep improving it. Today we have alarm clocks, ring tones, caller ID, and a whole lot more on the phone than just calling. Why did Bell even make the phone? Well he made the phone because if he did not make it then you would have to run to your friends house tell them what you wanted to tell them run all the way home instead of just picking up the phone calling your friend tell them the message put the phone down, your done. That is a really easy way to just do it. You hardly have to move. Alexander Graham Bell made life so much better from running to your friend’s house than talking throw the phone.
Question #5: Could this invention have an impact on the future? Explain.
This can impact the future because in the future we might get more technology and improve Alexander's invention even more! We could have picture phones, wild ideas just because of the simple phone he made. Even now we are still improving the telephone. The telephone is becoming greater and greater; people are talking over the idea of the telephone and now start charging people. That is why I think the telephone can improve the future.
Question #6: Did he have any help making the phone? Who was he/she?
The person who helped Alexander Graham Bell is Mr. Watson. He was a big part in making the telephone. He made most of the stuff because he is a technician. He was one of the most important parts in the success of the telephone. Thats why he is part of his sucess of the telephone. They both worked really hard so I think they both are very good men who worked on the telephone.
